Arezzo, June 10, 2025 – Palazzini (FdI): “Referendum - The Arezzo left is even weaker and more divided than 5 years ago, with its electorate short-circuited on citizenship”
"The referendums promoted by the left and the CGIL are not consultations directly comparable to a municipal election, but their outcome, especially in Arezzo, represents a relevant political indicator and provides some significant data on the state of health of the city's left." This is what Francesco Palazzini, group leader of Fratelli d'Italia in the City Council, said, commenting on last Sunday's referendum vote. "First of all - Palazzini emphasizes - in Arezzo the left is not growing, neither in terms of absolute numbers nor in terms of real mobilization capacity. Despite the large party-union and media apparatus put in place, there has been no leap in quality in participation or consensus." But the most striking element, according to Palazzini, concerns the sensational short circuit within the progressive electorate, which was highlighted on the question relating to citizenship. "Precisely on one of the left's most ideologically identifying issues, that of the attempt to lower the requirement to apply for Italian citizenship from 10 to 5 years, the progressive front has literally split. The data is clear: those who voted said "yes" to all the questions except citizenship. This means only one thing: the left is distant from Italians and even from its own electorate". "In Arezzo - continues Palazzini - the left is confirmed to be even weaker and more divided than five years ago, when it already presented itself fragmented in the administrative elections. The referendum data show that the distance between citizens and the left has increased, despite the tones of a permanent election campaign and ideological crusades". "For Fratelli d'Italia - concludes Palazzini - this is a further sign that our roots in the territory and the coherence of our battles are reflected among citizens, while the left finds itself having to deal with its contradictions and growing political irrelevance, even in our city".
